Whether you’re building a house and need to choose what kind of roof installation you want, or you have owned your home for decades and it’s time to replace the one that you’ve had for years, it can be tough to decide what kind of roofing you want. This will depend on what you need it to be able to perform.

If you live in a place that has a lot of reoccurring natural disasters than you will want your home to be protected. Your roof must be able to protect against hurricanes, natural wildfires, blizzards, and all of those other extreme situations that the weather can cause. This would require the correct slope angles, plus a strong base that the roofing will be laid on that will keep the home insulated.

Another aspect you should consider when adding a new roof is if you want it be environmentally friendly. There are all kinds of options available these days that can provide your home with solar energy roof windows. This could save you big money in the long run. Or you may just want shingles that are made of an eco-friendly material. This way, when you have to replace your roof again in the future you will have the option of recycling your old materials.

A tin roof is another option you have. There is nothing like the sound rain hitting a tin roof, and they have a very trendy look right now. Plus they are easy to paint, so you have the option of any color you want to go with your home. They generally come in large sheets, so the amount of time that one needs to spend putting on a tin roof is shorter than a detailed shingle job.

Shingles have great wind resistance and have a more refined look than tin. The price range on this type of roofing ranges, but you can find shingles that are fairly inexpensive if this is what you are looking for. They work well on roofs that have a complex shape and have a little more architecture flare to them.

If you are going for a Spanish or Italian style then clay tile would be the right choice. The best part about these is they are low-maintenance and easy to care for. They are made of natural materials, so you would get that eco-friendly feeling, and be able to recycle them later, or reuse them for other projects in the future.

Another environmentally friendly roof would be made from wood. You could use wooden shingles, however these require major upkeep and wouldn’t last as long as other materials such as metal and concrete. Also, they are not fire resistant, and even though the can be treated to help protect them in a fire, you will still have to make sure you are focused on the upkeep.

There are more options than what is listed above, but this article gives you the general idea that you are going to have to do your research before making your decision. Don’t look at it is as difficult task you have to do, and put it off. This should be fun, and remember you are improving your home, it’s value, and yours.
